What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a UK government-approved scheme that accompanied a National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) 10 Steps to Cyber Security report. The certification is an essential requirement for any company looking to deliver IT to public sector organisations including central government frameworks and MOD contracts.

What does Cyber Essentials Plus Cover?

The five control categories cover the most frequent IT security risks companies face:
  • Firewall Security
  • Secure Configuration
  • User Access Control
  • Malware Protection
  • Patch Management

How Do You Become Cyber Essentials Plus Certified?

As well as meeting the standard criteria laid out in the initial Cyber Essentials Certificate, companies must build on the mandated requirements and deliver untouchable security. To pass the assessment, companies must:
  • Guarantee any internet-facing service isn’t vulnerable to internet-based attacks
  • Have critical-rated patches applied
  • Have correctly installed anti-malware software that offers a high level of protection and Email software that protects from malicious files
  • Make sure all files downloaded by customers will not spread viruses
A strict on-premise audit of company technology and work stations is conducted by an accredited and expert assessor.

Who Handled the Assessment?

The required assessment was handled by an independent accreditation body, SecureTeam, who ran penetration tests, scans and attempted to access benign threats. They determined ITEC and MailaDoc had great base-level IT security and that any Technology Managed Service customers can be confident ITEC and MailaDoc will keep their data and information safe from malicious hackers.
